I just found out that MANG JOHNNY passed away already... My mom called sa philippines this morning lang and they forgot to tell us that he passed away a few days after lola luning did a few months back, this year lang.
his real name was Rufino Peralta and was from Nueva Ecija. He was bald and very dark skinned. He also had a mustache and he had beer and cigarettes for bisyo. He used to work for my dadapos;s brother, but since my mom needed someone to help her sell clothes. So he lived with us and took care of me since i was1 year old.
i remember vividly how he worked at the palengke selling clothes everyday helping my mom. He also had to sleep in a folding bed with holes on it (his cigarrettes would burn a hole in the bed, lol). I also remember his wallet that was so thick with money (fom selling, my mom doesnapos;t mind him holding apos;someapos; money... The clothes were selling like crazy so we had apos;tonsapos; of money back then hehehe) i donapos;t even remember taking money from his wallet even though it was out in the open (yah, and heapos;s kuripot, but not to me... He gave me money hehehe)
i would even bring him home-cooked lunch at the palengke. I would ask for 10 pesos and he would give me some. Pinalayas nga rin sya ni ate jem noon. But he came back because he said that he missed us kids. So he came back.
when we all left, mommy gave him a pangkabuhayan, which was all the panindang clothes that we had (that was one kariton, probably 3 boxes full of clothes). He didnapos;t get to stay at home where we lived because someone else lived in it so he decided to sleep at the palengke.
the last time saw him was last year when mommy and i went to the philippines. He still looked the same, and was still selling clothes at the palengke.
we had heard that he had many other complications (lungs, liver, stomach from the bisyo) and that his gallbladder broke that caused him his life. Hisrelatives were contacted (which was weird because we never heard from them and was told about what happened to him, where he lived all those years he was away from nueva ecija...) and got the panindang clothes as well as P100,000 he saved from selling clothes (he was the one who paid for his own hospitalization since he saved up a lot of money.
when i found out, i cried in the bathroom for a little bit... Just like mama nin and mama du, he was important to us because he was a big help in our family. He was our all-around helper and guard.
heapos;ll be missed
